Every meaningful journey begins with a question. Mine began with one simple observation: 

Why do some people, leaders, and organisations earn trust so naturally, while others — despite their intelligence, talent, or good intentions — struggle to gain or keep it?

Over the years, through my work with business leaders, professionals, entrepreneurs, and organisations across different industries and countries, I kept seeing the same pattern.

Some people inspired confidence the moment they spoke. Others possessed remarkable expertise but struggled to influence, lead, or build lasting relationships. The difference wasn’t always competence, experience, or resources.

More often than not, it came down to trust.

Yet the more I studied trust, the more I realised how misunderstood it is.

Many people think trust is something that simply happens over time. Others believe it depends on personality or good intentions. Some assume it cannot be measured, developed, or intentionally strengthened.

My experience taught me otherwise. Trust is neither accidental nor mysterious. It follows principles.

Trust is built through consistent behaviours, strengthened by intentional actions, and lost when those principles are ignored.

That discovery inspired years of study, reflection, and practical application, eventually leading me to what I now describe as the Four Pillars of Trust; the foundation upon which credibility, reliability, influence, and lasting relationships are built.

I wrote Unlock The TRUST Code because I wanted to make these principles practical and accessible.

Credibility is built through competence, integrity, and authenticity. People trust those who demonstrate knowledge, keep their word, and consistently act with honesty. Without credibility, influence is difficult to earn.A lack of competence or clear thinking leads people to question your judgment and lose confidence in your decisions.

Trust deepens when people know they can count on you. Reliability is demonstrated through consistency, accountability, and delivering on promises, even when it's inconvenient. Consistency builds confidence. Inconsistent follow-through erodes confidence and makes it hard for others to rely on you.

Do I feel safe with you?
Trust flourishes where people feel respected, understood, and valued. Intimacy is not about familiarity; it is about creating an environment where others feel comfortable sharing concerns, ideas, and aspirations without fear. Connection strengthens trust. The absence of psychological safety prevents open, honest communication, which in turn limits real collaboration.
